The process of triggering an effec t through an initial input .

This quite general anticipatory process can be found in physics (priming a pump) as well as in physiology and psychology.

An interesting case is semantic priming, in which a simple glance, or word can lead to the evocation of a much wider significance. An example could be “bomb”, which bring connotations like “danger”, “terrorism”, “explosion”, etc. (F. & P. LAVIGNE, 2000, p. 3-31)
