K. KRIPPENDORFF observes: “Consistent preference orderings are all transitive (e.g. if A > B and B > C, then A > C). Inconsistent preference orderings contain circularities (e.g. A > B, B > C and C > A)” (1986, p.58).

In complex situations, preference orderings can become very tricky, as various criteria can be more or less contradictory or incompatible.
