A sequence of events or actions characterized by a configuration well distinguishable from other configurations and that may be repetitive.
A frequent example are birdsongs. The same bird may repeat many times a typical sequence of notes. Or birds of the same species may transmit a similar song pattern from generation to generation.
D. GERNERT recognizes a variety of temporal patterns: “pattern generation , pattern transfer, pattern recognition , pattern intepretation and pattern application”(2000a , p. 158)
He recognizes such patterns for example in molecular biology and in developmental biology.
It is however obvious that temporal patterns can be observed in many fields under the guise of periodic processes , which may even be self-similar
