- “The study of patterns of interrelationships among the various ”species“ (subsystems, subsubsystems, etc…) or fields and subfields of knowledge” (J.W. CLARK, 1972, p.168).
CLARK, who proposed this conceptual frame, and a corresponding project of “Degree Program in G.S. Studies” emphasizes the necessity to:
- “a) preserve the condition of dynamic balance between the ”species“ and their environment;
- “b) optimize the overall, symbiotic fruits of synergistic interactions among them” (Ibid).
In fact, ecology of knowledge should also introduce other items as, for example, cybernetic and systemic models and concepts, as well as some new mathematical tools (graphs, fractals, catastrophes, chaos, etc…), all of which permit to interconnect fields and subfields in a significant way.
