The blockage of a flow through overstuffing of flowing elements in a channel .
M. BUCHANAN gives the following example: “Put just a few beans or grains of coffee through a chute and they will flow quite easily. Try to send too many through at once and the chute jams as the grains get frozen in place”(2000, p.31). Jamming transitions are quite a common phenomenon . It can be observed for ex. in traffic jams, or in stampedes at too narrow outlets in a theater or a stadium.
