A mechanism of mutual negative association between antagonistic elements or subsystems .

Cross inhibitions are frequent in biological, ecological or economic processes .

They are based on combinations of positive and negative feedbacks and are needed to maintain a regulated process within defined or pre-determined limits .

J. HOLLAND describes for ex. cross inhibition in cells associations and in chromosomal alleles (1992, p.60-64).
