Invariance in time of the properties of a system (adapted from W.R. ASHBY, 1958, p.202).
When a protocol of observations contains redundancies and thus allows for statistical reduction (compactation in ASHBY's vocabulary — or the somewhat different compression in CHAITIN's sense) something may be stated about the behavior of the system only if its properties observed through the protocol are “not subject to unpredictable vagaries” (Ibid), i.e. “information-tight”, at least so far as these properties are concerned“ (Ibid).
The concept seems somehow related to MATURANA and VARELA's organizational closure, and may even have been one of its sources.
