A property of an element or subsystem that becomes concealed at a higher level in the system.

A good and simple example is the concealment of the specific properties of the oxygen atom or molecule within the H$_{2}$O molecule. Immergent properties are a natural complement of emergent ones.

Immergence is a general characteristic of all elements entering in combinations within more complex units: it is practically a very basic social property.
