- “A method of managing computerised data sets as different as human populations , soil types, tree cover or roads, all referenced to the coordinates of a map ” (D. MacKENZIE, 1998, p.57).
Such a system is presently installed in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Its objective is to reveal the probable consequences of any possible natural disaster in the making, in order to be able to take in due time protective action .
Such a global information system is very cost -effective when compared with the colossal losses incured when calamities strike unprepared human groups.
