The possibility of applying the same model (with slight modifications if needed) to a number of different kinds of situations or systems.
This can be understood in various ways:
- The possibility to apply the model to different levels of complexity. A good example is the general model of living systems elaborated by J.G. MILLER (1978).
- The possibility to apply it to different kinds of systems hypothetically endowed with some common properties. A good example is M. EIGEN's hypercycle model (1979).
