This brain feature is proposed by the French neurologist J.P. CHANGEUX, according to whom such loops: “cut the reward signal coming from the outside world and allow a ”tacit“ testing of motor intentions, on the base of the memorized traits of a former experience” (1992, p.712).
This seems quite close to H. MATURANA's concept of self-reference and organizational closure.
It is even probably a quite more general property of networks of any kind.
