The physics of energy and its transformations.

This term now quite in disuse was proposed in the 19th century by W. RANKINE, but replaced by “thermo'''dynamics”, introduced by lord KELVIN. This change may be considered as infortunate, since “energetics” was less restrictive and more appropriate to a general science of energy.
