E. JANTSCH proposed the two following basic rules “for purposeful organization or planning”:
- “1. Make structure as flexible as possible, so that it can be changed by emergent changes in the interaction of processes; and
- “2. identify and enhance evolutionary processes of change, recognize and respect their self-bounding nature” (1975, p.63).
These rules (themselves part of a good understanding of the nature of systems) seem also absolutely needed for defining clearly “the vision of what should be” in systems design as proposed by B. BANATHY, if biases of any kind are to be avoided.
If so, planning will probably converge into design in a not too faraway future.
