ALLEN and STARR give as an example a single heartbeat and they comment: “The endogenous cycle time determines the time taken for a holon to return to its equilibrium behavior after being influenced by an external signal. This is sometimes called the relaxation time, an alternative criterion for arranging holons in hierarchies” (p.37).
