Our incapacity to perceive this that we do not perceive.

This notion, introduced by von FOERSTER, using the metaphor of the ocular blindspot has also been formulated by:

- the French economist J. FOURASTIÉ, who spoke of the “ignorance of ignorance”.

- by G. de ZEEUW, who uses the term “invisibility”.

Cognitive blindspots are very dangerous, because they leave us in the false security that what we know covers the whole of what can be known. This does not allow us to see the narrow limitations of our knowledge.
