Plato's Allegory of the cave

The 'Allegory of the cave', also known as 'Plato's cave', is an analogy from the greek philosopher Plato. It was written around 380 BCE and published in his work 'The Republic'1. The allegory is a concept devised by the philosopher to ruminate on the nature of belief versus knowledge2. It is a dialogue between Plato's brother Glaucon and his mentor Socrates.
