The succession of states of the network (1991, p.66).
Such a trajectory is usually very complex in networks including numerous elements, even when some of these are integrated in stable subsets (KAUFFMAN's “Frozen cores”). As all the elements act simultaneously, the behavior of the networks tends to be deterministically chaotic, i.e. not really random but appearently so. It does become at times practically unpredictable.
