The critical threshold beyond which more structure building becomes redundant.

Such thresholds seem to result from interactions mechanisms , either automatic as for example in termites building their nest under the influence of emitted and perceived pheromones , or through the direct perception of some redundancy level , as in human social behavior . (Overburdening bureaucracy for instance)

M. MARUYAMA, in an off-hand comment, once observed that two post-offices are never built close to each other, because such a redundancy would be very inefficient.
